The Arizona Renaissance Festival starts February 7th and runs weekends and President's Day through the end of March. I will be performing with Jamila Lotus Bellydance Carnivale on the Dancing Pig Pub stage four times a day. Come See!

I am currently teaching a Bhangra class at the Plaza de Anaya Studio on Mondays. Check out their site for more information.

Starting next Wednesday (February 4th) I will be teaching a 4-week Bollywood Intensive at the Plaza de Anaya Studio. You can reserve your spot on their site - they will cap it at 25 people so grab it while you can!

Hopefully I will get to sail on the Lady Washington in April *crosses fingers*

The third weekend of May I will once again be teaching at Tribal Fest in Sebastopol. Would love to see you!

Also - I will be touring the UK this summer. Places confirmed so far are Ford Castle (Northumberland), Inverness, Nairn, Edinburgh, Southampton and Liverpool.

The 4th annual Bellydance Caribbean Cruise is confirmed for November 4-12. Ava Fleming and I will be your teachers once again! The 8-night cruise will be stopping at St. Maarten, St. Lucia and St. Kitts. 9:15 am - Quick Update and Tall Ships Tacoma links...

My Captain, Evil Ryan Meyer, in a video about nautical cannon battle tactics
with footage of a battle sail (I was gunning that day):

Awesome photo of my friend Billy, Gunner's Mate and Engineer of the
Privateer Lynx -
http://www.thenewstribune.com/942/story/405289.html

Horrifyingly written article, but anyway, it features me a bit... the gunning photos are of my awesome shipmate Roscoe (and gunner's mate... I've never had one of those before ;) on my day off. At the time they were taken I was wandering around Tacoma with Preston... possibly engaging in our tradition of drinking a bottle of wine then going to tour the Coast Guard Cutter Eagle...
http://www.thenewstribune.com/tallships/story/406480.html

The site is the main Tacoma newspaper and there are many amazing photos and videos of the vessels that were in the Festival. I am on the Lady Washington until August... this is the first time I have gotten to have even a little time with internet access so if you have been trying to contact me I apologize! I will write/call you when I return.

I somehow managed to convince a person in power on the Eagle that a shipmate and I could lay out on their fore royal yard. I climbed the Eagle! Their masts are 147.3 feet tall!

With Love from Port Alberni in British Columbia,

Sam

9:26 pm - Aberdeen, WA - Tall Ships countdown...
So many things have happened!

I got on board the Lady Washington June 5 in Portland after spending some time visiting the amazing, clever and witty Shane. Lucked right into a forecastle rack. Lucked right into being the gunner.

Okay, so at first I thought it would be interesting to just learn a new thing, you know? I have always been interested in black powder weapons. Yeah, that's cool... I'd like to try that...

And then I did it for the first time and Jesus, Mary and Joseph it was amazing. The absolute rush of the brilliant hiss of the priming powder leading to the big bada boom. The excitement and fervor of having to worm, swab, reload, ram, prick and prime to get another shot in as soon as possible. Standing on the quarter deck being privy to all of Captain Evil Ryan's tactics. Cleaning the guns like they're my babies. Fashioning new tools to keep them clean and in good condition. Braiding slow match and soaking it in saltpetre. Rolling black powder charges. I love it all.

I now smell like pine tar and gunpowder all the time. I am so happy.

1:11 pm - Tall Ships Challenge 2008
I posted this as an answer to where I will be this summer... but if you are in the area (NW coast... Portland north into BC) you really should see this. Especially if you like the Age of Sail. This is where the Lady Washington will be when I am sailing on her... as Bosun's Mate. Yay!

At some point you may need a Glossary of Nautical Terms to read my journal entries...

Hillary Clinton Believes War With Iran Would Be Funny

Once again, I must state... I am not posting this because I am open to debate about which candidate is the best... I am merely disseminating information.

Hillary Clinton scares me.

4:05 pm - Tribal Bellydance Show - Me and Mel performing - 8/25 (AZ)
I am doing a tribal bellydance show with Melissa of Bedouin Tribe, tomorrow night - Saturday (8/25)! It is at this super cool new restaurant, Lamassu, in Gilbert. Our part of the show starts at 9:30... actually there will be a cabaret dancer on before us (sometimes it is Ellisha - she is sooooo yummy) so perhaps you should call the restaurant to find out what time.

I hear the food is wonderful. They also have hookahs and a bar.

Here is the getout article: www.getoutaz.com/story/2540

Interestingly, the Sumerian word lama, which is rendered in Akkadian as lamassu, refers to a beneficent protective female deity. In art they were depicted as winged bulls and lions; both forms had the heads of human males. They are generally attributed to the ancient Assyrians.

Cool name for a restaurant.

Lamassu, 53 N. Val Vista Drive, is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Info: (480) 539-5909.

1:33 pm - Wow. Didn't think this would happen...
I am actually inspired by a presidential candidate!

Check out Mike Gravel, the Battleaxe for world government, freedom of partner choice and gender expression, anti-war, anti-IRS, pro-national healthcare, anti-"war on drugs", wants more power in the hands of the people... staged a one-man 5-month filibuster against the draft in the '70s... he's a badass and is passionate and not afraid to speak out. I adore him.

Here's his youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=gravel2008

Btw, I am not posting this to get into political debates... I am posting it because if anyone feels the way I do about stuff they might be inspired by the fact that there is someone out there speaking with our voice. That's all. It's wasted space to try and change my mind ;)
